Looking over Loch Assynt to Ardvreck Castle. Sutherland, Scottish Highlands. Ardvreck Castle is thought to have been built around 1590 by the Clan MacLeod who owned Assynt and the surrounding area from the 13th century onwards. The castle has two ghosts: one a tall man dressed in grey is said to be related to the betrayal of the Marquis of Montrose here after his defeat in the battle of Carbisdale. The other is the ghost of a daughter of one of the Macleod Chieftains
